Blog updates

Filed under: General — George Katsoudas @ 7:08 pm

I haven’t posted for a week, because I was making some changes to the blog.

Not all by myself of course, since I’m an idiot with technical stuff. :-)

Can you do me a favor?

Tell me what would you like to see different on the blog. Be specific. Colors, graphics, widgets, different layout etc.

I have also ALMOST completed a special report called “The Simple Money Code.” You can see it at the top of the page. It’s only 90% ready but you can download it. I would appreciate the feedback on that as well. Positive or negative. :-)

Thanks,

George

10 Deadly Mistakes Affiliates Make and How to Fix Them - Part 3

Filed under: Affiliate Marketing — George Katsoudas @ 11:36 am

Here’s the 3rd and final part of this affiliate series. If you missed the first 2 parts, here they are again:

10 Deadly Mistakes Affiliates Make and How to Fix Them - Part 1
10 Deadly Mistakes Affiliates Make and How to Fix Them - Part 2

On with the show…

Mistake #9: Not “owning” the process as much as possible

You can just get your affiliate link and advertise it as is. You can make money doing that. But you will make much more if you become a “part” of the process. Here are two quick tips to do this:

- Register a domain and redirect it to your affiliate link. Then, advertise that domain where appropriate. It looks much less tacky and opens up more promotion opportunities for you (Like Yahoo Answers or forum posting for example).

10 Deadly Mistakes Affiliates Make and How to Fix Them - Part 2

Don't throw your money into the blender...

Don't throw your money into the blender...

This is the 2nd part of the affiliate series. In case you missed the first part, you can read it here: 10 Deadly Mistakes Affiliates Make and How to Fix Them - Part 1

Ok, moving on:

Mistake #6: Not adding a twist or offering extra value

True, you want to see what other affiliates do first and then try to emulate them. But just because this shortcut is available, it doesn’t mean that you should become TOO lazy (lazy is ok, too lazy is uncool).

Avoid going the wrong way in your affiliate promotions

Avoid going the wrong way in your affiliate promotions

Note: The mistakes below are what most affiliates make when they try to target a market “from scratch” - it’s not for those who are fortunate enough to have a mega-traffic website or an optin email list with a million names on it ;-)

Mistake #1: Their keywords don’t attract buyers.

Many affiliates will choose keywords like:

2 “root reasons” why you procrastinate and what to do about them

Filed under: Mindset and Inner Game — George Katsoudas @ 4:07 pm

One of the top obstacles we face, is that we put off doing the things we need to do.

We KNOW what needs to be done - but we still procrastinate.

So, why do we do it? There can be many reasons. Many of them have to do with fear of some sort. Since there are hundreds of fears, that would take a lot of time to analyze. But for now, here are two “deep” reasons that are not talked about that often:

Procrastination Reason 1: Being “bossed around” when little

When we were kids, we weren’t really asked what our opinion was. We were just “ordered” to do things.

“Sit down!”
“Pay attention to the class!”
“Eat your food!”

Sometimes, the intention behind this was good. The adults wanted to help us build a better life (for the most part). However, we had developed a negative association with being told what to do.

As kids, since we had no “power” over the adults, we just decided to be “passive aggressive” about it.

How not to get owned on PPC - Part 2 (Google Slap and Quality Score)

Filed under: Pay Per Click — George Katsoudas @ 3:44 pm

Sometimes, it’s challenging to make money via Google Adwords, because Google requires us to pay much more than what we expected.

Some markets are competitive and you may have to pay over $1 per click just to play the game. But if you see minimum bids of $5 to $10, then there’s something else going on.

I have only been “Google slapped” once - and that was because I deserved it. I used almost nothing from the list below (I was doing a quick test back then).

Even if you haven’t been slapped, you can still pay less than your competitors by pleasing the almighty god Google. The list below is by no means exhaustive - but it’s a very solid start. So, here are some tips:

Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time: Recently, a team of marketers started putting up fake blogs, all basically saying the same thing: “I was fat but then I found this combo diet (promoting two diet products) and I lost weight.

If you were looking for something like “Acai” or “colon cleansing”, you would basically get at least 5 of the top results being similar-looking blogs. They made the offers appear free while in reality the customers where getting billed $89 after 14 days (the affiliates where pocketing $30 per “free” conversion on average).
Many people started complaining and eventually all those campaigns got slapped. In fact, some of those advertisers lost their entire accounts.

How not to get owned on PPC - Part 1 (Keyword Research)

Filed under: Pay Per Click — George Katsoudas @ 8:05 pm

Ok, it appears that many people wanted to know about PPC. This happens to be one of my favorite subjects, as I have been doing PPC for years…

Below are some of my current thoughts “as they come to me.” Some of them, you will agree with. Some of them you may scratch your head over - and that’s totally cool. Some of the tips will be more “philosophical” in nature and some of them will be “hands on.”

1: “The only constant thing is change.” I think what trips many people up is that they apply today what worked great in the PAST. The internet changes at a fast and furious pace. PPC advertising is no different.

In the past, you could make a mile-long list or “somewhat related” keywords, point them to your affiliate link and make bank. Today, this will get you slapped, broke and frustrated.

The problem is that outdated information can still float around. Older ebooks, forum threads, articles etc. Even “outdated thoughts” inside your head can make you believe that this is the way to go - only to find out the hard way that things have changed. You should always be as up-to-date as possible on how things in your chosen field work.

Ask and ye shall receive…

Filed under: General — George Katsoudas @ 6:55 pm

What do you want to know about? What would allow you to take your business to the next level?

Feel free to post your question below or email me. IF I know the answer I will cover it on this blog very soon. If I don’t know it, I won’t pretend that I do. ;-)

You don’t have to give all the specifics of your business - but do make the question specific enough so I can address it…

If you want to ask your question anonymously, you can mention in your post that you don’t want your post to be published, or you can even use a pen name - it’s all cool.

Later,

George

How to escape from information overload WITHOUT missing out on the information you really need…

Filed under: Mindset and Inner Game — George Katsoudas @ 6:33 am

Imagine eating a nice steak or your favorite food. After 30 minutes you eat AGAIN. After 20 minutes you eat yet again. And so on. It doesn’t matter how healthy or delicious the food is - after a while the body just can’t handle it.

This is very similar to information overload. This is so cliche in our industry that it ain’t even funny. The problem is not that there’s not enough information available - it’s that it has become too much for us to absorb.

One of the new “ailments” of today is called “Information Anxiety” (as if we didn’t have enough issues to deal with ;-)). We want to learn more and more - and we feel anxious if we don’t know everything there is on a subject and we are not “up to date.”

You feel the need to read more and more books, ebooks, articles, reports and forum threads. You feel the need to watch more DVDs and online videos. You feel the need to listen to more teleseminars, CDs or audio programs.

How to break bad habits without “trying too hard”

Filed under: Mindset and Inner Game — George Katsoudas @ 7:21 am

This is the 2nd post on this blog.

Thanks for all the comments and emails you sent regarding the first post. It felt “weird” communicating with people again - but it was “good weird” - not “freaking weird weird.” ;-)

Ok, lots o’ stuff to cover today, so let’s get to it:

Attention: Some of the stuff below may sound like new age weird philosophies. That’s exactly how it felt sometimes, as I was writing them - but I can assure you, these are NOT THEORETICAL. These are PRACTICAL things you can apply in your life right now (in minutes).

You will start seeing immediate difference in your business and personal life. How you write ads, articles, salesletters, how you do research, how you make decisions, etc. Although some explaining may be required regarding why we do some things, I’ll try to keep the “theory” to the minimum and give you the specific things to do (at the end of this post).

The most important and most neglected ability:
